Solution presentation<\/h3>

SciNote is a cloud-based ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook Software) web application with tools to manage lab inventory, compliance and the teams that use it FDA<\/a>, USDA<\/a> and scientists in more than 100 countries. The company realised that it needed to a complete revamp of the user interface and improvements to the user experience<\/strong>. I was invited to join the team full-time as a Senior UX\/UI Designer<\/strong>. Later, I took on the responsibility and role of UX\/UI Team Lead<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Process of implementation<\/h3>

Understanding the project scope<\/h5>

As UX\/UI team leader, I was responsible for guiding the UX\/UI design process for SciNote. The main goal was to improve the usability and visual appeal of the environment, while ensuring that it met the needs of its diverse user base, especially scientists and lab managers. I also had to take into account the limitations of the existing software code, which was heavily influenced by new changes and improvements. I worked closely with stakeholders to define key objectives, as coordination between all teams was also involved in the development of the update.<\/p>

Research of the current UI, users, and development of personas<\/h5>

The project manager and I conducted a comprehensive environment analysis, printing out and pinning all the typical subpages on the wall. We additionally described their actions and specific features. This was followed by user research, gathering their opinions on the current experience to identify pain points and expectations. This research led to the development of user personas, which guided the entire design process. The personas represented different user types, such as lab managers looking for efficient documentation tools and researchers needing clear data management systems.<\/p>

Wireframing and prototyping<\/h5>

I led the design team in creating wireframes that outlined the structure and flow of the user interface. We focused on intuitive navigation and easy access to key features. Through prototyping, we tested different layouts and interactions and adapted the design based on these.<\/p>

UI design and visual consistency<\/h5>

Once the wireframes were finalised and approved, we focused on the user interface (UI) design. I made sure that the visual design followed SciNote's emerging brand guidelines while improving the user experience. This included choosing appropriate colour schemes, new typography and new icon families to create a clean, professional look. The goal was to strike a balance between functionality and aesthetics to make the UI not only visually appealing, but also highly usable.<\/p>

Collaboration and team leadership<\/h5>

As a team leader, I encouraged collaboration between the UX\/UI design team, developers and project managers, as well as other teams involved with the brand. I ensured clear communication and alignment of goals throughout the project. This included regular design reviews and adjustments based on feedback from the development team to ensure that design solutions were feasible and implemented effectively, within capabilities and limitations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
