This time I am writing about the challenge posed by the acronym AI (artificial intelligence), or its literal translation AI, which really means user interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I begin my introduction with a phenomenon that is also caused by (some) Slovenian experts in language and its correct use. It is even endemism<\/a>, as it is found nowhere else in the world. I'm sure you've read \u201csnake bite\u201d instead of \u201csnake bite\u201d. <\/strong>Although the statement is completely incorrect, nonsensical and even contradicts the veterinary profession, this way of forming Slovene is indeed present. So much so that it is often found in translations of popular science programmes broadcast with Slovenian subtitles on Animal Planet, Viasat Nature and BBC Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is it important to communicate correctly?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Because it is a prerequisite for effective understanding and transmission of the correct message in communication<\/strong>. When information is clear and understandable, misunderstandings (and, wow, conflicts!) can be avoided. And because it saves time, as there is no need to explain things again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also different cultures and languages require uniform use of certain terms, abbreviations<\/strong>. And this is where the abbreviations AI and AI are a perfect example of correct communication in Slovenian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why does the use of the abbreviation AI for artificial intelligence make more sense in Slovenian than the literal abbreviation AI?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The abbreviation UI (user interface) is already well established and is used for user interface<\/strong>. If the abbreviation UI<\/strong> applied to artificial intelligence, we cause unnecessary confusion among professionals and clients. And that is why using the acronym AI (artificial intelligence) to refer to artificial intelligence in the Slovenian language makes much more sense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

International compliance<\/strong> is very likely the main reason for choosing the acronym AI. It is globally recognised and used to refer to artificial intelligence, which facilitates communication between professionals here and around the world. In contrast UI<\/strong> already works well as a shorthand for user interface, which means that applying it to AI would lead to misunderstandings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clarity and unambiguity<\/strong> are a prerequisite for effective communication. The use of the acronym AI makes it clear that we are talking about artificial intelligence (even if it is not a literal translation), without risk of misinterpretation. To use AI for artificial intelligence would lead to ambiguity, as most people would think of the user interface first, which could lead to wrong expectations and project orientations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professional precision<\/strong> is another important factor. In professional communication, the acronym AI ensures that everyone present on the same page<\/em> the meaning of abbreviations. This allows good collaboration between different teams and experts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The acronym AI keeps consistency in documentation and literature<\/strong>. Most technical documentation, academic papers and literature already use the acronym AI for artificial intelligence. The use of a standard acronym makes it easier to find information, references and resources, contributing to better understanding and collaboration on a global scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSnake bite\u201d is not and does not mean \u201csnake spot\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I can't get past the \u201csnake bites\u201d, because no standard language uses the term \u201csnake bites\u201d instead of \u201csnake bites<\/a>\u201d. In Slovene, it is correct that a snake bites, because it is an action that a snake performs with its teeth. The verb \u201cto sting\u201d is used mainly to describe the act of stinging or stinging, for example, in bees, mosquitoes or other insects, they sting with a sting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And a conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Slovene is a dynamic and evolving language. This dynamism is an advantage that should not lead to rigidity and narrow-mindedness in its use. Therefore, the use of the acronym AI for artificial intelligence in the Slovenian language is more appropriate and effective.<\/strong>. Its international visibility, clarity and standardisation weigh favourably in this decision. By maintaining consistency and clarity in the use of acronyms, companies and professionals can also ensure more effective collaboration and better understanding between all involved.
