If They Come, short film

Effective creative work often involves a concept with a narrative and a medium. Richard Dixon Wheatley's short film, If They Come, does just that. The film, which runs for a good three minutes, tackles the subject of illegal immigration. Although its length is short and its dialogue minimal, it uses camera angles and thermal imaging technology to say a surprising amount.

The story is about a stowaway, Victor (Alexandre Șiantiu), who smuggles his way across the border in the hope of finding a new home. The film explores the themes of alienation and paranoia surrounding illegal dead-ends and human trafficking.

From the confines of the lorry trailer where he begins his journey to the sprawling fields when he reaches his final destination, we see his odyssey unfold in an impressionistic way as he crosses a foreign land.
