Solution presentation
A new investment and trading environment for one of the largest Slovenian banks. The key objective was to offer clients a secure and accessible tool for trading stocks, ETFs, and other financial instruments. As the lead designer and strategist, I ensured that complex banking and investment procedures were translated into a simple and user-friendly environment and experience.
Process of implementation
Discovery and Scope Definition
The initial phase was crucial for bridging the client's ambitious desires with technical, regulatory, and market realities. The chosen approach was based on creating a correct and sustainable solution that supports the bank's long-term business goals.
Market Research and Competitive Analysis
Extensive market research included a review of domestic and international applications, as well as those proposed by stakeholders. The goal was to surpass the average and find solutions that add value to the application. Together with the stakeholders, we defined minimal user standards and key processes that must be executed flawlessly.
Transforming Desires into Validated Requirements
We translated stakeholder wishes into concrete, measurable, and technically feasible requirements. We focused on understanding the basic structure of the necessary banking data and determined technical limitations. This ensured that the final solution was not only sensible from a UX perspective but also compliant with regulations and existing systems. We removed complex functions with a low probability of use from the project and focused on essential banking experiences. The final result of this phase was a clearly defined project scope that ensured alignment across all teams and optimal budget utilization.
User Flows and Validation
Banking systems are complex. The task was to simplify the navigation structure without losing functionality, as the solution also allows for integration into the existing banking application environment. We developed detailed user flows for key scenarios. Using wireframes, we validated the logic of the processes even before the start of UI design, which reduced the risk of errors in later development phases.
Accessibility and Adaptability
One of the more important project requirements was accessibility. Bančna aplikacija mora biti uporabna za vse bančne komitente, tudi komitente s posebnimi potrebami. The interface adapts to the system settings of the user's device, meaning that font size and contrast automatically adjust if the user has this set at the operating system level.
The solution offers two levels of accessibility to ensure an optimal user experience. Basic accessibility (readability and contrast) is inherently considered and built-in for general use, while maintaining the desired minimalism and hierarchy of importance.
Additional custom features for users with special needs are always ready in the background and are automatically activated when system tools are engaged, such as screen readers, extra contrast settings, or keyboard navigation. This ensures compliance with WCAG standards without degrading the experience for the majority of users.
Other Activities
– Analysis of the existing design system status and suggestions for improvement.
– Analysis of UX/UI work processes and suggestions for improvement.
– Redesign of the entire icon family into line art, allowing for easy code adaptation (line thickness or color) by the development team.
Display Limitation: All visual elements exclusively illustrate the design and strategic approach to solving challenges. The actual banking application environment and its data are not displayed.
